"Pearl Harbor Day" December 7, 2010

FLAGS AT THE USS MISSOURI

Today was a perfect Hawaiian day, blue sky, puffy clouds, sunshine, and trade winds. You couldn't ask for a better day.
This is the day that the Japanese surprised the islands with early morning bombs. Pearl Harbor was just one of the installations that was attacked. There was total devastation at the bases. The president called this day"a day of infamy". Sixty-nine years ago this place was a mess, today everything is picture-perfect in the islands.
Today happens to be my day off, so I did what any other photographer would do, cruise around and get some shots of the happenings of the day.
There were lots of re-enlistments, retirements, and other things going on.
The USS Missouri was really crowded with returning survivors from that day 69 years ago as well sailors, soldiers, and Marines of todays military. I only wanted to focus on the USS Arizona, USS Missouri, USS Utah and the USS Oklahoma. I also took a short ride to the Pacific National Cemetery at Punch Bowl. What a day for photography.
